The 6th National Over 60s Cricket Carnival will be held at Armidale in northern NSW from 20 to 24 November 2011.
Tasmania will again field teams in each of the three divisions. The Tasmania Over 60's CC has donated a trophy for competition in the new Division 3 in memory of the late Brendan Lyons, the former patron of Tasmania's veteran cricket organisation.
Trevor Stephens from Ulverstone will lead the Tasmanian Tigers Division 1 team which includes Australian Over 60's Test representatives Ian Fraser, Mike Gandy and Ken Last. The team will be strengthened with the inclusion of top-order batsmen Rod Headlam and Bill Friend although the absence of Geoff Clow will be hard to cover. Other members of the Tigers squad are Geoff Anyon, Gerry Davies, Murray O'Connor, Roger Edmunds and Apps Jordan.
On the Tuesday rest day of the carnival there will be a 50 over Test match between Australia and England. Last August the Australians toured the UK losing the Test played at Leeds by a convincing margin; playing on home soil it is hoped the tables will be turned. New Zealand and Sri Lanka will also be represented at the Armidale carnival.
While down under the England Over 60s will also play two Test matches in Sydney before the Armidale carnival and another three in Melbourne after the carnival concludes. In addition there will be two Over 70's Tests played in Melbourne between Australia and England . Tasmania's Graeme Crole and Bob Cotgrove have been selected to represent Australia.
The 7th National Carnival will be held during November 2012 in Adelaide.
Daily updates from the Armidale carnival will be available on the CT website.
