Clarence win TCA Twenty20 Final
Sunday, 28 December 2008
Clarence has won the Cascade TCA Twenty20 Final at Bellerive Oval with just two balls to spare.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, North Hobart struggled to maintain a good run rate due to some tight bowling from the Roos Jason Wright (1-8) and Sam Rainbird (0-15).
Sitting at 2-24 with the loss of Michael Di Venuto and Jon Rogers it appeared the Demons might crumble however the Roos would still need to get through Jon Dakin.
Dakin provided the lift needed smashing 38 from 24 balls with a big six clearing the Clarence Cricket Club roof. David Collins also provided entertainment in the lower order with 25 off just 8 balls, the Demons finishing their twenty overs at 6-136.
The Roos innings did not start ideally, loosing Tom Flowers in the first over to Dakin.
From their though it seemed all smooth sailing for the eastern shore team as David Dawson (62 off 58 balls) combined with Jon Wells (29 off 22 balls) and Shannon Tubb (28 off 22 balls) to edge closer to the title.
Some excellent fielding from the Demons saw a late collapse of wickets with the Roos requiring seven runs from the final over. With the experienced Andrew Dykes at the crease, the Roos scored the runs with two balls remaining.
