A strong performer for Tasmania's 2nd XI in 2005-06 and 2006-07 and captain of the team in 2007-08 Rhett Lockyear has been handed a full contract again after missing out the last couple of season. He played in the Tasmanian Tigers Twenty20 team in 2007-08 posting some handy runs on the board and led the charge in one match with a blistering 64 off 27 balls, a knock which featured 11 fours and two sixes. Rhett also took to the field for the Australian team at the recent Test match held at Bellerive Oval. Lockyear, a right-handed batsman who attended the Academy in 2003 when playing for St George in Sydney, made his Pura Cup debut in 2004-05 and appeared in two matches with a top score of 24. Rhett works part-time as a painter.
