South Hobart Sandy Bay and Kingborough will face off in the final of the Cricket Tasmania Vacation Under 18 Twenty20 competition at Queenborough.
Kingborough was the first to book its passage through to the decider with wins over its Pool B opponents Clarence, North Hobart and University.
The Knights bowled Clarence out for 70 in defence of their 130 at Soldiers Memorial Oval in round one before defending 141 against University at the Kingston Twin Ovals.
Kingborough’s final match was against North Hobart at Queenborough and it tuned up for the final with a massive ten wicket win, bowling the Demons out for 43 and chasing down the runs in 5.2 overs.
South Hobart Sandy Bay had a slightly more difficult path with a big win over Glenorchy in round one at Clare St Oval followed by a tougher win over Lindisfarne in round two at the Kingston Twin Ovals.
The Sharks final roster match was effectively a semi final against New Town at Queenborough who had also won both its matches earlier in the week.
South Hobart Sandy Bay prevailed by 41 runs to move through to the decider.
Kingborough’s key player is captain Mitchell Backhouse who has scored 134 runs over the three roster matches including 79 against University while South Hobart Sandy Bay will look to Alexander Wolff to continue the form that has seen him score 101 runs with a top of 78 against Glenorchy.
Dylan Perryman and Thomas Martyn are leading the way for the tournament with the ball taking seven wickets at 6.29 and six wickets at 7.17 respectively for Kingborough while South Hobart Sandy Bay have been lead William Christian who has the only five wicket haul of the week and Jack Green with five wickets each at 4.80 and 8.40 respectively.
Other notable performances in the competition came from Oliver Lane who made 72 for North Hobart against University in round one and Hugh Flassman from New Town who made 54 not out against Lindisfarne, also in round one.
University duo Jack Luck (62 against North Hobart in round one) and Grant Stewart have also posted half centuries.
Stewart’s unbeaten 72 in the final round of matches against Clarence at Queens Walk included eight boundaries and six sixes in a smash and bash performance lasting 27 minutes as Uni won its first game taking just 8 overs to chase down 107.
